Your child's instructor is a full time professional dancer and
teaching artist with eba Dance Theatre and Maude Baum and Company Dance
Theatre, or an invited teaching artist. eba teaching artists perform
Modern Dance Theatre Concerts, Arts-in Education works in schools, and
teach curriculum through movement in classrooms as part of eba's
Kinetic Learning Project. At eba, your child is learning dance from a
highly trained artist who has the talent, skills and commitment
necessary to pursue a career in dance and the education, experience and
desire to teach.
Maude Baum has been working in the field of Dance Theatre for over
35 years, Ms. Baum received the prestigious Albany Chamber Women
of Excellence Award 2003 for Distinguished Career. She opened her first
school of Creative Dance in 1963. A founding member of eba, she holds a
Masters Degree in Dance and Related Arts. She headed the UAlbany Dance
Program for 7 years before devoting full time to eba. Ms. Baum was
awarded Choreographer of the Year and Local Hero by Metroland and was
the first artist to be accepted in the Capital Leadership Program. She
is listed in Who’s Who in Women in Education and in Dance; was Chair of
the NYS Dance Association, member of National Dance Association Senate,
and member of NYSCA AIE Panel. She sits on numerous advisory boards and
has spoken widely on Arts in Education. Her work has been presented
Internationally since 1982.
Naomi Wimberley-Hartman is a dancer, choreographer, and educator. She is a dance educator and
advocate, teaching children between pre K-8th grades in many public and
private schools around the Capital District. Naomi holds many
certificates including a BA from Mount Holyoke College, an MFA in dance
from the University of California, Irvine, a MAT in elementary
education from Bennington College, and is a Power Pilates certified mat
instructor. She has also danced professionally for over 15 years and
directs The Equine Dance Company. The company explores horse and human
movement training, history, and artistry to arrive at a collaboration
that leads to a deeper understanding of interspecies connectivity.
Volunteerism is also her passion and you can find her working with
Literacy Volunteers of the Mohawk/Hudson Valley and the Dance Flurry
Organization, of which she is board member.
Sandra Calvano-Silva studied Tap, Jazz and Hip-Hop locally and
downstate. She has danced with the Adirondack Wildcats and UAlbany
Dance Teams, as well as the Albany Patroons Dance Team, serving as
captain and coach during the '07-'08 season. Sandra completed two
workshops
with the Knicks City Dancers, making it to the second round of their
dance team auditions. Her choreography has been featured in dance
competitions, performances, and for cheerleading teams. Sandra has a
degree in Special/Elementary Education from The College of Saint Rose,
a Master's degree in Technology and is a 4th grade teacher at Taconic
Hills Elementary School. She has also danced in eba's Brave New Dances.
Sarah Spungen has been dancing since
the age of 5. She studied at Mid-Atlantic Ballet in Westchester NY, the
School of American Ballet in Manhattan, and in several intensive
programs at the Pennsylvania Ballet and Miami City Ballet. As the only
freshman member of SUNY Albany's competitive dance team, she later
became the team captain in her Junior and Senior years. Sarah danced
with the Albany Patroons Emeralds dance team, and has served as captain. She co-found and choreographs for The
Sassy Sapphires dance group. Sarah has performed in several Brave New
Dances.
