SO THIS IS DANCE
Ignite the imagination! This one hour program explores the similarities
and differences between various styles of dance theater. Styles ranging
from ballet, tap and jazz to classic and contemporary modern to
broadway dance are brought to life through selected works from the
Company repertoire. eba artists perform each work in full costume with
musical accompaniment. Artistic Director Maude Baum narrates the
lecture demonstration, providing insight into the origins and unique
aspects of each dance style. The program concludes with a brief
narrative by each dance explaining how he/ she became a professional
dancer, followed by a question and answer session.
IMPROVISATIONAL THEATRE
Improvisation is one of the many methods used by creative artists to
develop a theater work. This lecture demonstration is designed to
illustrate an improvisational approach to creating script, dance and
character. As the audience is shown excerpts from eba dance theater
work “24 Hour Watch”, the Artistic Director details the specific
technique used to develop the segment. Finally, the dancers
perform related improvisations to further explain the use of
improvisation in the development of set works. This program works best
when presented with a performance of “24 Hour Watch”.
THE BIG DECISION
The decision making process is the number one ingredient in
composition. An understanding of composition leads to advancement in
most aspects of learning and creating. The many methods of composition
are shown as applied to dance, character and script development, and
costume design. This lecture demonstration is geared for persons
interested in any aspect of composition; whether in writing, music,
textile arts, graphics, dance or theater. The Artistic Director
narrates the program as members of the eba Company perform selected
works to illustrate the process of choreography and composition and the
finished product. All dance works are performed in full costume with
musical accompaniment.
