Maude Baum and Company Dance Theatre Artists |

MAUDE BAUM has been working in the field of Dance Theatre for
over 45 years. A founding member of eba and Artistic Director of Maude
Baum and Company Dance Theatre (winner of Metroland “BEST OF” Regional
Dance Company 2005); she holds a Master’s Degree in Dance and Related
Arts and a teaching certification from Dance Masters of America. Ms.
Baum headed the UAlbany Dance Program for several years before devoting
full time to eba. Ms. Baum was honored with the 2009 Girl Scout
Trailblazer Award, 2003 Women of Excellence Award for Distinguished
Career, 2001 Regional Artist of the Year Award and Choreographer of the
Year 2000 by Metroland Readers; to name a few. Ms. Baum’s work has been
presented internationally since 1982 in Egypt, Turkey, Russia, England
and Guatemala; and on tours in Turkey, Spain, Italy and Greece. In the
U.S., her choreography has been presented at Soundance, St. Marks
Dancspace, Artpark, Dance Theater Workshop, DIA Art Center, WAX and the
Lake Placid Center in New York; at Footwork’s in L A and the Industrial
Ballet in San Francisco, CA. She was first Chair of the NYS Dance
Association and member of NYSCA AIE Panel. Teachers in the U.S.,
Russia, Morocco, South Africa and Turkey use Ms. Baum’s Arts in
Education work.
Richard Chafin has been Technical Director and Stage Manager for eba
and Maude Baum and Company for over twenty years. He holds an A.A. from H.V.C.C. in
Individual Studies. Richard was a member for the Human Rights Improv Theatre
Troupe and Coordinator of the D.S.S. Affirmative Action Players. He
was awarded grand prize in the Price Chopper Video Competition in ‘91.
He received acting awards from NYS Division of Human Rights and D.O.T
Women in Government. Richard’s creative work has been included in Brave
New Dances for several years.
Mary Beth Cole - Hampshire
began studying modern dance in Charlote, NC with Mary Ann Mee, a former
member of Charles Weidman’s Company, and ballet with Kathryn Horne,
formerly with American Ballet Theatre. Mary Beth performed with Dance
Central, co-directed by Mee and Horne, for 6 years including principal
modern dance roles and classical ballet roles including the Snow Queen
and Arabian Dance in the Nutcracker. She performed for two seasons with
the Moving Poets Theatre of Dance (also based in North
Carolina). Mary Beth currently serves as an instructor of
mathematics for Hudson Valley Community College.
Kat Gurley graduated
with a BFA in modern dance from the University of Colorado at Boulder
and is currently on the dance faculty at the Berkshire school in
Sheffield, MA. She received her formal training in Boston MA at the
Jeanette Neil School of Dance. She has been a member of Skeleton
Dance Project a professional modern dance company and Kissidugu a
contemporary West African dance company both based in Boulder, CO. Kat
is also a certified yoga instructor and teaches throughout the
community.
Lynn Hasselbarth began dancing with the Guilderland Ballet,
studying under Nancy DeRook, Ricci Adan and Jana Fugate. She expanded
her training in moden dance at the University of Michigan where she
received a B.A. in Political Science and Women’s Studies. Lynn spent
the past year in Huanuco, Peru where she used various forms of art and
dance therapy to support survivors of sexual abuse and domestic
violence. She currently works with the City Mission of
Schenectady and is a dance critic for the Metroland Newpaper. Brave New
Dances 2005 was Lynn’s debut with Maude Baum and Company.
Isabelle Holmes grew up in New York City, where she studied at the School of American
Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Hispanico, and graduated from
Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing
Arts. She has worked with many choreographers and teachers such as
Arthur Aviles, Sean Curran, David Dorfman, Doug Elkins, José Greco,
Bill T. Jones, Stephen Koplowitz, Doug Varone, and Igor Youskevitch.
Isabelle was a member of the Zuzi! Move it Dance Company in Tucson, AZ,
then co-founded Northampton Ballet Arts in Massachusetts. She is
currently finishing her degree in Arts Management at the Massachusetts
College of Liberal Arts and working with Sandra Burton at the Williams
College Dance Program.

Isabella Ientile - began her dance training at The Dance Center of
Queensbury studying under Barbara Tebeau, Diane Labruzo, Annette
DeCrease and Aura Dixon, former soloist of the NYCB. Isabella attended
the New York State Summer School of the Arts for Ballet, studying with
NYCB residents such as Wendy Whelan and Damien Woetzel. Isabella was
first introduced to modern dance through Deb Rutledge. In 2008, she
graduated Summa Cum Laude from Marymount Manhattan College with a B.S.
in Business and is currently working on her Master’s of Economics at
the University of Albany. Isabella reenters the world of dance by
joining Maude Baum & Company and Nacre.
Sarah LaRoe
grew up and began her formal training in the Capital Region. She holds
a B.A. in Dance Performance and Choreography as well as Psychology from
Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland. She began her professional
career with the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, and has been with Maude
Baum and Company and everything but anchovies Dance Theatre since
Spring, 2002. Sarah is currently working towards her Ph. D. in
Environmental Engineering at RPI.
Katie Newhall
began studying ballet at the age of 4 at Carol Maxwell’s Dance Studio
in Ellicott City, MD. She began dancing in the Albany area, while
completing a B.S. in applied physics and mathematics at RPI, where she
was president of the Dance Club. She currently dances with Maude Baum
and Co. and everything but anchovies Dance Theater, and teaches at eba
Center. Katie is working towards a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics at RPI.
Dr. DEB RUTLEDGE began her dance training at The Dance Center
of Queensbury. She graduated cum laude from Ohio University, with
a B.F.A. in Dance. While in Ohio, she studied under Gladys Balin,
Doug Elkins, Mark Haim, Tere O’Connor and others. Her
choreography has been presented at universities and community centers
in both New York and Ohio. Deb began her professional career with
the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company where she created many roles.
Deb dances for Maude Baum and Company and everything but anchovies
Dance Theatre. She has been a Guest Artist, as both performer and
choreographer, with the Youth Ballet Company, The Adirondack Ballet
Theatre, and the School of Arts at the National Museum of Dance.
She teaches ballet and modern for the RPI Dance Club, and is a senior
faculty member at the eba Center for Dance. Deb has recently
graduated from the Sage Graduate School with her Doctors of Physical
Therapy. She is an education based neurodevlopmental physical
therapist at the Center for Disability Services.
Amy Vincent
began her formal dance training in the Capital District with the Youth
Ballet Company under the direction of Beth Hartle. She continued
her dance education at the University at Buffalo while obtaining a B.A.
in Health and Human Services and Masters in Social Work. While at
UB she studied with resident artists Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane
Dance Company, Philadanco, and Limon Dance Company. Amy is currently
the Prevention Educator with the Albany County Crime Victim and Sexual
Violence Center.
