The Business Development Center's role in economic development is multi-faceted. Our guiding principle is to be a catalyst for encouraging and enabling businesses to make the connections they need to succeed, and to work with the professionals that can help them reach their goals. 

Strategic partners in the Center’s network of resources include business and civic organizations; financial institutions; real estate representatives; municipalities and government agencies; private and public economic development communities; entrepreneurship and small business development entities; and educational institutions. The Center is also the economic development affiliate of the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Through partnerships with local municipalities like the City of Troy, we participate and support economic development efforts that benefit Rensselaer County.  These efforts and others encourage creativity and entrepreneurship; they also help to facilitate the creation of jobs, expand the City's tax base and improve the quality of life.

Within this broad network, the Center promotes such community initiatives as downtown development, neighborhood economic development and rural economic development. Working with municipalities, banks and other local loan funding sources, the Center helps businesses to identify and secure financing, locate sites and capital for expansion and relocation, and navigate government regulatory issues.
